We are a growing, enthusiastic group of people currently building a cohousing community in a lovely, older neighborhood of North Portland, Oregon. We are individuals, couples and families of varied backgrounds and ages - from 0 years to 60 plus - who want to live in a community where we know each other like extended family, while our personal needs for privacy and independence are honored.
We are excited! We closed on our construction loan on Tuesday, August 19, 2008. Construction began on Thursday, August 21, 2008. We expect the community to be living together in September 2009! Come join us in Portland, Oregon. See our Construction blog. See our Community blog.
Part of the Daybreak community at our Ground blessing ceremony
Although we’re not yet living at the site, members of Daybreak Cohousing feel a sense of belonging—of community—that’s come from working together to make our dream a reality. We are fostering a supportive environment that allows us to live our personal and spiritual values. Because we care deeply about the environment, we will incorporate environmentally sustainable practices in construction, our community, and in our day-to-day living. Daybreak Cohousing will be a dense, urban village with a physical design that encourages social interaction while respecting personal needs for private space. Our homes will have most of the features of conventional homes, and we will also be able to enjoy extensive common facilities. Come meet us! We are actively seeking new community members. We invite you to attend our informal socials to get to know us and learn more about our plans. Socials are scheduled twice a month in public and private settings, usually the first Sunday of the month and another day of the week near the middle of the month. Dates and locations are listed regularly on this website. You also can ask to be put on our mailing list for e-mail reminders of dates and locations. We look forward to meeting you soon!
