Below are some of the things we did in 2006, what a year!
Events - 2005/2006
December 10, 2006 - Dave & Terri's House
Joyous mayhem ensued on Sunday afternoon, December 10 at Dave and Terri’s house for our second (!) annual Holiday Cookie Baking Extravaganza. It seemed
like the whole house was filled with activity: either rolling dough, creating cookie sculptures, checking the cookies in the oven, endless decorating, or just
plain having fun! Thanks for all the sugary (some of it even somewhat healthy) joy.
November 19, 2006 - Muddy Waters Coffeehouse
This cozy coffee shop allowed us to play host to a group of over 20 people. Most of the current community members were there. We were joined by some folks
who had contacted us when we first began, some who have been getting to know us for a while, and some who had recently learned of us. We used this opportunity
to announce the successful purchase of our property and outlined what lies ahead in the process to create our home.
October 12, 2006 - Powell's Books
This informal gathering drew about 14 people, some folks who have been working on Daybreak a while and others new to the community. Gathering at a long table
at this friendly coffee shop allowed us to talk together as group and have some tete-a-tetes. Conversations about how individual's faith shapes their worldviews,
sharing personal experiences of consensus decision making, and finding out where people live and why they like to live there were they do were a few of the topics
overheard in the small groups.
September 17, 2006 - Lucky Labrador
We were thrilled to share the exciting news of our upcoming property purchase and other updates with over 25 folks including members, new and old friends. It
was wonderful to see some folks we hadn’t had a chance to meet with for a couple months and to get to know some new folk too! Thanks to all for sharing
in our excitement!
August 2006 - Dechutes River
In August, brave souls from the Daybreak community challenged the mighty Deschutes river in an inflatable paddle-boat, a cargo oar-boat, and a nimble kayak! Sadly,
Alex lost his glasses when he was the first to take a...'swim', but blindness did not stop him! There were some hairy moments like when Rich and the gear in
the oarboat were underwater in oak springs rapids, but with amazing prowess he managed to get the boat out of the hole with some direction from first mate Terri
perched on the bow! Everyone had a great time, despite our scrapes and bruises that may have been acquired mostly by those who tried the kayak. Dave managed to guide the
group down the river safely and provide an experience we shall never forget.
It was a great time to get to know each other better, and to talk about some of our life stories. We look forward to planning another trip next summer!
July 16, 2006 - Sellwood Park
Lots of sun and good food helped us celebrate the addition of 4 new households to the community on July 16th!
May 14, 2006 - Cascadia Commons Cohousing Community
More than 25 folks interested in community joined in Cascadia Commons Sunday Brunch. Cascadia members then graciously gave tours and opened their homes for the inquiring
minds of those interested in cohousing for future living. We had many new faces as well as most of the Daybreak group in attendance. After the tours we gathered
round to talk about our dreams and interests in cohousing and picked the brains of some Cascadia experts. The discussion was extremely inspiring and thought provoking.
We thank everyone for attending and hope to see you at future meetings and gatherings.
Many thanks to Jennifer, George, Zan, Don, and all the members of Cascadia Commons for opening your doors and hearts, and all the work you put into hosting the gathering.
March 4, 2006 - Dave's House
WOW! 20 people packed into Dave's house to BE community! Thank you to everyone for coming together to share. Those with community experiences at Tui, Acorn, Brazil,
Findhorn, and other intentional communities in Oregon shared their wisdom. I think we all shared our excitement for building community. Thank you also to Circle
of Squares for joining us. And special thanks to all of you for your support and enthusiasm for our Daybreak adventure. Your energy sustains and nourishes us!
December 11, 2005 - Martha's place
One child, seven adults, four kinds of cookies, four colors of frosting, elaborate decorating, puzzling over cookie shapes (it's a kangaroo, no it's an aardvark or
a ...) and in the end... plates and containers laden with cookies to take home. Rich entertained us all with his precision decorating of a custom-made ginger "house" cookie
and a 3-D WiFi tower. Martha never had so many people in her kitchen but realized that there was room for even more. Adults seemed to be just as engaged as our youngest
cookie maker and taster, Colin.
